Carolina’s Story
My name is Carolina Balcazar. I am originally from Colombia. My new home is Canada. I used to think: I am an accountant here in Colombia. I am going to arrive soon in Canada and I am going to be an accountant there. That's it. But it's not like that. It's not so easy. It's not impossible, but it's not easy. You're going to need help. But who is going to help you? Don't worry. Just listen. Go to the Multicultural Centre and just ask for help. I can give you many names: Ana Luz, Katelyn, Dave, Lutfiye… Many names. They are there for you. They are there for me.
You are going to haven an opportunity to go in the Pre-Employment Program, a beautiful program. You are going to the learn that the resume, the five-page resume that you used to have, and you were proud of that resume, is not working. For that reason, many employers are not calling.
They are going to help you update that resume in a Canadian style, and according to the employment you were asking for. They are going to share with you amazing tools to follow up or to connect with people. Oh. Connect. There is another program, WR Connectors. It's a beautiful program where you are going to have the opportunity to meet great people that are going to give you clues and many opportunities to improve your communication in your profession.
And maybe you are going to have the opportunity to go the Global Skills Conference where you are going to meet people like you, like me, professionals. We need connections.
I remember something that is so important: that if you're so busy looking for a job, you must invest that time connecting with people. You are going to learn that.
Ask for Dave. Ask for Lutfiye. Ask for Katelyn. They are going to help. They are going to help you.
Bye.
