KWMF 2020 Press Release

The Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Festival is moving online for June 2020.

Festival organizers have contacted hundreds of performers, music and dance schools, community groups, and vendors from prior years and invited them to share photos, videos, and links to their websites and online stores. As part of Multicultural Week (June 20-27), the K-W Multicultural Centre will be sharing that content across all of their social media platforms.

In addition, the Festival will feature colouring contests and daily workshops on YouTube where local artists will demonstrate and instruct viewers in a variety of art-forms. Story-telling, Yoga, Drumming, and African Dance are among the offerings.

"Our goal here is to share the diversity that exists within the community with the whole world," said Lucia Harrison, the CEO of the Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre. "We have so much to offer; our performers, artisans, craftspeople and community groups all contribute to the rich tapestry of diversity within our community and we aren't going to let the lockdown stop us. So we're taking it online."

But what about the food?

"Ah yes," she said. "Many of the community groups that run the food tents are on board and will be working with us to find a way to offer Festival favorites from various restaurants around town."
