WR Connectors

Settling into life in Canada was like stepping into a whirlwind, especially when it came to job hunting. I had my doubts in those early months, questioning the decision to leave behind my career at its peak and embark on a new chapter with just two suitcases. Thankfully, my sister's journey had already paved the way for me. She'd crossed paths with Dave Thomas at the Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre, and his guidance had kickstarted her Canadian career.

So, naturally, I reached out to Dave as well. KWMC became my go-to spot, a hub of support where Dave and his team diligently guided me through this new chapter of my life. They helped me polish up my resume, offered insightful workshops, and connected me to like minded mentors.

Every Friday, I'd eagerly await the KWMC PEP Talk bulletin, hoping to find something that'd spark my interest. One day, I stumbled upon a job opportunity that seemed like a perfect fit, and I wasted no time in applying. I gave my first-ever Canadian job interview soon after and today, I'm proudly wearing the hat of Communications Manager at Reep Green Solutions. I'm living my passion, growing personally and professionally with each passing day.

Dave might say it's all down to my talent, but I know I owe a huge part of my success to him and the amazing folks at KWMC.

Venus, one of our valued clients in the WR Connectors Program, shared a remarkable story that truly highlights the impact of our initiative. Venus believes that "The Connectors Program is effective and special because it helps connect people from different backgrounds who share similar interests. Through these connections, there's a chance to share ideas, experiences, and suggestions."

Venus recounted a pivotal moment when she shared her journey as an artist with Jany and Dave. They immediately saw a potential match and suggested she meet Susha, a local artist with a similar creative spirit. When Venus and Susha finally met, it was as if a new world of shared ideas and interests had opened up.

"I felt Susha was the perfect choice to teach the Quilting workshop hosted by the Coalition of Muslim Women of KW under the Women Building Women program," Venus said. Susha’s exceptional talent in leading sessions made the first lesson, which took place last week, an enriching two-hour experience filled with information, art, and enjoyment.

Reflecting on the experience, Venus noted, "It would have been hard to find an artist to teach this subject if it weren't for the coincidence that brought me together with Susha." She extends her gratitude to connectors Dave and Jay for their dedicated efforts in helping people find valuable opportunities in the Waterloo region.
